| L'origine del Comune di San Benedetto è molto recente. Dopo il 1871, San Benedetto divenne capoluogo dell'allora comune di Pian del Voglio, il quale cambiò denominazione nel 1924, per trasformarsi finalmente nell'attuale comune di San Benedetto. Come si evince chiaramente dalla lettura dello stemma comunale, l'attuale comune di San Benedetto non è altro che il risultato della fusione di due primitive comunità: quella di Pian del Voglio e quella di Poggio dei Rossi; di questi ne ha ereditato i territori e gli stessi blasoni o gonfaloni, che ha inserito nel proprio stemma composto da scudo partito con capo d'Angiò, avente nella parte destra lo stemma del Poggio dei Rossi ( il leone rampante ) e a sinistra quello di Piano del Voglio ( una ruota a otto raggi e il piano verde di campagna ). Piano apparteneva ai conti Alberti di Prato o di Mangone che lo ebbero per successiva ampliazione della loro investitura imperiale, ed era compreso nel territorio di Bruscoli. Nel Quattrocento fu investito quale feudatario di Piano da parte del comune di Bologna un esponente della famosa ed antica famiglia bolognese De Bianchi: Pietro di Bianco. Questi inviato quale messo a Carlo VI d'Angiò per chiedergli aiuto contro i Visigoti che allora assediavano Bologna, ottenne dal re la protezione della città e il titolo di cavaliere, conferitogli il 10 maggio del 1389.I bolognesi, orgogliosi del successo di Pietro, al suo ritorno in patria gli diedero l'investitura di Castel di Piano, con mero e misto imperio, ovvero con pieni poteri anche di giudicare e di punire.Piano diventò contea nel 1534 grazie a Clemente VII e prese successivamente il nome di Pian del Voglio dal rio che gli scorre accanto.Il dominio dei Bianchi su Piano durò ininterrottamente fino al 1796.Contemporaneamente alla contea di Piano reggeva il territorio di Poggio la nobile famiglia Rossi che diedero al luogo il loro nome trasformandolo in Poggio dei Rossi.Anche questa era una nobile ed antica famiglia che aveva dominato Parma e si era trasferita successivamente a Bologna dove ricoprirono cariche importanti presso il comune cittadino e presso i pontefici.Al momento della prima ristrutturazione amministrativa nel 1796, il comune ebbe sede a Piano che, come ricordavamo, nel 1871 prese il nome di Pian del Voglio. Dopo tale data pur conservando il nome di Pian del Voglio trasferì il capoluogo a San Benedetto dove ha sede ancora oggi. Nel 1924 infine in seguito al Regio Decreto n° 2019 viene autorizzato il cambiamento della denominazione del Comune in San Benedetto Val di Sambro. L'aumentato prestigio di San Benedetto rispetto a Piano ed il suo relativo incremento, devono essere anche attribuiti alla costruzione della nuova rete ferroviaria Direttissima Bologna - Firenze e alla relativa Stazione di San Benedetto. Purtroppo questa Stazione è nota in tutta Italia per altri motivi ben più tragici: la strage del treno "Italicus" (4 Agosto 1974: 12 morti e 105 feriti) e la strage di Natale ( 23 Dicembre 1984: 15 morti e 150 feriti). |
Historical notes
The origin of the City of San Benedetto is very recent. After 1871, San Benedetto became the main village of the area who changed his name in 1924 (Poggio dei Rossi), to become finally in the town of San Benedetto. As is clear from reading the municipal coat of arms, the present town of San Benedetto is simply the result of the mix of the two primitive community: Pian del Voglio and Poggio dei Rossi, of which he has inherited the territories and the same banners and coats of arms, which has included in its party emblem consisting of a shield with the “head of Anjou”, with the right side of the Poggio dei Rossi (the rampant lion) and left with Pian del voglio (a wheel with eight spokes and green countryside ). Piano del Voglio belonged to Counts Alberti in Prato or Mangone it had it for imperial investiture, and was included in the territory of Bruscoli. In the fifteenth century was invested as a feudal lord of plans by the municipality of Bologna, a member of the famous and ancient family of Bologna De Bianchi: Pietro di Bianco. He was sent to ask for help to Charles VI of Anjou for help against the Visigoths, who then besieged Bologna, obtained from the king to guard the city and the title of knighthood, conferred on May 10, 1389.
Bologna people, proud of the success of Pietro, on his return home gave him the investiture of Castel di Piano, with pure and mixed empire, and even with full powers to judge and punish .Piano became a county in 1534 thanks to Clement VII and later took the name of Pian del Voglio for the name of the river passing there.
The domination of Di Bianco on Pian del Voglio lasted uninterruptedly until the 1796.
At the same time that Piano County held the territory, the noble Rossi family lived in near area (now San Benedetto) that gave the place Poggio dei Rossi. Also this was a noble and ancient family that had ruled Parma and moved later to hold high office in Bologna, and worked for the popes.
By the administrative restructuring in 1796, the town was located in Piano, as indicated in 1871 took the name of Pian del Voglio. After that date, while retaining the name of Pian del Voglio the administration was moved to San Benedetto, where is also today.
Finally in 1924 following the Royal Decree No. 2019 is approved changing the name of the Municipality of San Benedetto Val di Sambro.
The increased prestige of San Benedetto against Piano del Voglio and its relative increase, must also be attributed to the construction of new railways Bologna - Florence and the relative station of San Benedetto. Unfortunately, this station is known throughout Italy for other reasons far more tragic: the bomb on the train "Italicus" (August 4, 1974: 12 killed and 105 wounded) and the massacre of Christmas (December 23, 1984: 15 dead and 150 injured).
